When you volunteer with Special O.P.S. (Overcoming, Persevering and Shining), you are stepping into a community where adults with special needs are celebrated, not sidelined. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Johnson County and surrounding areas, our purpose is to foster an inclusive environment where friendships grow, confidence rises, and every person knows they matter. We are blessed to partner with VFW Post #9299 in Alvarado, Texas, which provides a warm, family‑friendly space for our gatherings.

New volunteers are often surprised by how quickly they feel at home. You might be greeting participants at the door, helping someone find a seat, joining a craft or game table, or simply sitting and listening as someone shares about their week. There is no special degree required—just a willing heart, patience, and a desire to treat each person with dignity and respect. Our team offers basic guidance on communication, boundaries, and safety so you never feel like you are on your own.

Serving alongside veterans, families, and community members at VFW Post #9299 adds something unique to our nights. The same hall that honors service and sacrifice becomes a place where adults with disabilities laugh, sing, and build real friendships.
